Talent Tuesday – Job Opening at FDA
FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced he will be leaving his position next month. The White House has confirmed a resignation was not requested. Reason for departure only states that he wants to spend more time with his family.
Gottlieb previously worked at the FDA but was in the private sector for a decade before taking the helm of the FDA in May of 2017. In his short time he has certainly not let the grass grow under his feet.
I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity to help lead this wonderful agency, for the support of my colleagues, for the public health goals we advanced together, and the strong support of @SecAzar and @realDonaldTrump – This has been a wonderful journey and parting is very hard. https://t.co/1Zu9y7NTwR

There are a lot of great articles on Scott’s agenda and resignation. Take a look.
Breaking news came from the Washington Post, “Food and Drug Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who used his post to tackle difficult public health issues from youth vaping to opioid addiction – surprising early skeptics worried about his drug industry ties – resigned Tuesday, effective in about a month.”
NPR’s Alison Kodjak talks to David Mitchell, the founder of Patients for Affordable Drugs about taking on drug prices.
CNN takes a look at his time at the FDA and what he says was “a wonderful journey and parting is very hard.”
HealthDay Reporter at WebMD outlines how Gottlieb took on tobacco in advocating for kids. And unlike others in this administration, he created little controversy.
So of course our next question is who will replace him? What is he leaving undone? How will the industry react? It is anyone’s guess but here is some of the buzz.
