MGMA 14: Beacon Partners Discuss Best Practices for Transitioning to ICD-10
The annual MGMA conference gives medical practices an opportunity to learn, collaborate and network with peers. Always Forward was the theme for this year’s conference held in Las Vegas this year. With that tagline in mind, we sat down and interviewed key executives from companies and organizations exhibiting at the conference. One topic everyone seemed to be talking about was next year’s ICD-10 deadline.
In looking at how practices are addressing the transition to ICD-10 by October of next year, we sat down with Craig Greenberg, National Practice Director for Beacon Partners. On the interview, Craig discusses what practice leaders need to be focused on as we head into 2015, specifically advising them to secure leadership buy-in and conduct an ICD-10 gap analysis.
In discussing the critical issue of training, Craig offers up several suggestions including encouraging practicies to look to the hospitals their physicians work with as many hospitals offer training. Most importantly, practices need to look at the benefits of web-based training as it provides flexibility and role-based customization. Finally, with regards to training physicians, he provides a number of recommendations for practice managers and leadership in getting physician buy in.
