HIE Resources to Help Providers Connect
HIE Resources for Stage 2 Interoperability
In Stage 2 of the EHR Incentive Programs providers will be required to exchange EHR data with health care organizations as well as exchange patient health information when care is transitioned from one provider to another. These are requirements for meaningful use of certified EHR technology. Providers will need to find solutions to securely exchange health information and understand the options of their local exchanges. Stage 2 begins in 2014 for those early adopters of EHRs, which means they will be reporting 90 days of transition of care measures. Here are HIE resources to help providers understand how to connect and exchange health information.
Regional Health eDecisions: A Guide to Connecting Health Information Exchange in Primary Care – This document was prepared for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), HHS, and prepared by the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Norman Physician Hospital Organization, Norman, Oklahoma. This document will help primary care practices connect to regional health information exchanges. It lays out a blueprint to help a practice connect its EHR to a Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO), offers tips to engage staff buy-in, addresses technical issues, and helps to make sure that data acquired from information exchange can be accessed by clinicians as part of their regular workflows.
